Here’s what it looks so far…
We added some accessories, recovered a yard sale chair, and built the entertainment unit and a sofa table. I repainted the artwork. I think by removing the yellow and staining the frame, it makes it look more finished.
We built the sofa table from shelves and hardware I had been hanging onto in the basement.
We found a chair at our church’s yard sale for only $12. A few weeks ago I bought a scrap of fabric at a thrift store for $2. At the time I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it, but it ended up being perfect for the chair we found.
We reattached the nail head trim once we finished recovering the chair.
Unfortunately the entertainment unit didn’t come out exactly as planned, but I’m still coming up with ideas to improve it. If I could start all over I would use 1” or even 1 1/2” conduit. The 1/2” looks too flimsy. Before building it we debated on whether we should use one 1” x 12” or two across. Ultimately we decided to use 2 boards (24” wide, instead of 12”) so the TV, box, and DVD player could all fit on the shelves. I think one board would have been sufficient. But since we don’t want to start all the way over, I will come up with something to make it more substantial.
We used three 10 foot 1/2” electrical conduit ($1.98/each), 8 3-way splitters, 4 elbows, and 1 pack of conduit clips. We actually bought the boards from a yard sale (they were displaying shoes on them). Two 7 foot 1” x 12”s for $3. We spent $28 on the entire unit.
We don’t have too much to add to the dining room, but here’s where we started…

Jessica got the chairs for free and we added the 5 minute artwork. After recovering the chair, we still had enough fabric to recover all 3 barstools. So, without spending any additional money, here’s the updated dining room:
